Indonesia hit by earthquake

At least 44 people are confirmed dead and thousands of homes flattened after the quake hit on Wednesday afternoon.

More than 300 people have been injured and dozens are still missing. Thousands of buildings have collapsed in Cianjur, about 100km (62 miles) south of Jakarta, and the nearby town of Tasikmalaya. Most severely damaged buildings occurred in the Tasikmalaya region. Recorded 1470 were heavily damaged homes, while the slightly damaged buildings 1418. In Garut, the building was severely damaged as many as 965, and slightly damaged as many as 1840 buildings.

Building damage also occurred in several areas in West Java, among others: Sukabumi, Bandung, West Bandung, Bogor, Ciamis and Kuningan.
